On a free guided tour of Begunje, get to know the village that gave Slovenia, and the world, national folk music.
A musically inspired walk through Begunje na Gorenjskem, the birth place of the Avsenik brothers. You will find out that the village isn't just home to the Avseniks but also other musicians and lovers of Slovenian national folk music.
Visit the places that marked the youth of 'Jožovec's Slavec' and inspired his musical creativity.
From in front of the 'flowering chestnut tree in the garden of our father', the tour will lead past the old school to St. Urh's church, where young Slavko experienced his most beautiful Holy Night. From the bridge the homestead can be seen behind the old mill where, at the home of the village organist, the Avsenik children were first acquainted with music staves. Along the way there are reminders throughout the village of the adventures of the Veseli Beguncani – Slavko's friends in his youth and his musical successors. The tour along the traces of 'Jožovec's Slavec' will end at his final resting place, where, in silence, we will listen to 'the wind that carries my song'.
This free guided tour of Begunje is part of the Avsenik Festival, however, tickets for the festival are not required in order to join in the guided tour. The guided tour is intended for individual visitors.
