Visit Radol’ca for Summer Refreshment

Read our latest blog to discover how and where in the Radol'ca area you can cool down and seek refreshment, including in somewhat alternative ways.

Radovljica and its green surroundings offers an abundance of opportunities for cooling off and making the most of summer. Together with classic ways, below we have put together some activities which, in addition to being refreshing, also ensure fun and adrenalin. From swimming in pools and natural bathing areas to pleasant walks and thrilling activities in water and in the air. You will find numerous ideal ways to spend summer outdoors in the Radol’ca area and enjoy every minute.

COOL OFF WITH FRESH WATER FROM RADOVLJICA’S FOUNTAINS

Nothing beats the heat more than a sip of fresh, cold water. Water fountains are located in the middle of towns and villages, alongside walking and cycling routes and at playgrounds.

Twenty water fountains are available in the Radol’ca area from April to October. They are located in towns and villages as well as alongside walking and cycling routes and at playgrounds.

A WALK THROUGH THE FOREST

Talk a walk on one (or more) of our theme trails and along the way dip your feet in water and/or have a refreshing drink of water from water fountains. We recommend the Lambergh Trail, which leads from Begunje na Gorenjskem past the ruins of Kamen Castle in the cool embrance of the Begunščica stream, which runs through the Draga Valley. The Grabnarca Waterside Nature Trail is another pleasant, mainly forested trail and this year the Slovenian Foresty Institute ranked it among the 14 Best Forest Trails. From the old town centre of Radovljica you can set off on a trail that crosses the Fux footbridge to reach viewpoints above the village of Kamna Gorica. These trails are also mainly in the shade of the forest and walkers are rewarded with beautiful views from the Zjavka and Ojstra peč viewpoints.

ICE-CREAM IN THE SQUARE

Treat yourself to an ice-cream in Linhart Square. Take a stroll through the old town centre, ice-cream in hand, and enjoy looking at the picturesque bourgeios houses or take a seat on a bench in the shade of the ancient tree-lined avenue in the park, where you can relax and soak up the pleasant summer atmosphere.

CHILLING IN WATER

Swimming is a classic way to cool down in the heat of summer. During summer holidays in Radovljica you can swim at the Radovljica and Kropa swimming pools as well as at the natural pool at the Šobec Camp. River Camping Bled also has a pool for guest use.

WATER-BASED ACTIVITIES

Water-based activities on the Sava River and in surrounding gorges have long been popular among lovers of the outdoors and adrenalin-fuelled activities. Set off with a local guide by raft or kayak along the Sava River. Beginners' kayak courses are also available. The Sava River is also a popular place for anglers, who enjoy discovering its deep pools. For those seeking more adrenalin, canyoning is an excellent choice. Accompanied by a guide, in the canyons between Bled and Bohinj you can enjoy descending along natural slides and jumping into refreshing pools. When making a reservation, enquire about the option of transport from Radovljica or travel to the start point with your own transport.

BY PLANE OR PARACHUTE BENEATH THE CLOUDS

In the Radol'ca area you can also cool off in a somewhat different way. From the Lesce Sports Airfield you can take a glider flight high beneath the clouds and soak up the views of the ridges of the Karavanke mountains, the Julian Alps and Lake Bled. You can also do parachute jumps from various take-off points in the Radol'ca area. Amazing views, an adrenalin rush and the wind in your hair are guaranteed!

OTHER SUGGESTIONS

Of course, Radovljica and its surroundings also offers many other activities. Upon prior arrangement you can go on a guided visit to one of the Karst caves on the Jelovica plateau, hire an e-bike and set off to discover the green surroundings – independently or with a guide – and more. To avoid the noon heat, set off early morning or late afternoon, and avoid the noon heat by visiting a museum and/or have lunch at one of the Taste Radol'ca restaurants

May the sunny days of summer bring you happiness and relaxation as well as an opportunity to create precious memories. Experience summer in Radol'ca.
