Are you still undecided about where to spend your summer holidays or searching for ideas for places to go on day trips? Look no further, you're certain to have a great time in Radol'ca!

There’s always something going on in the Radol’ca area. Over 100 events will take place during the course of this summer, and guests who stay in the destination for a minimum of three nights can take advantage of the benefits offered by the Julian Alps: Radovljica discount card. Every week there are free guided tours of the old town centre of Radovljica, the village of Kropa and the ruins of Kamen Castle. In addition to an overview of the main events this summer, below we have provided some additional information that is useful to know when visiting the Radol’ca area for a holiday or a day trip.

STEP INTO SUMMER IN RADOL’CA WITH THE CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL AND INTERNATIONAL SWING FESTIVAL

The first of numerous summer events in the Radol’ca area is the Radovljica Craft Beer Festival, which takes place on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th June. The event, which takes place in the park, in close proximity to the old town centre, features a selection of Slovenian craft beers and food cooked by local chefs. The festival is an ideal opportunity for lovers of beer and good food to taste various flavours and socialise while enjoying the pleasant atmosphere. Excellent concerts will take place on both days of the festival (Guni, Kokosi, and If Floyd: Tribute to Pink Floyd), as well as entertainment for children.

The next festival on the agenda after the Craft Beer Festival is the International Shake the Change Swing Festival, which takes place in Radovljica on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd June. As part of the festival, a dance/music evening programme will take place on both days, for all visitors. The old town centre will come alive with the rhythm of swing, with music provided by the bands Swingwagon and Pickpocket swingers. Local Taste Radol’ca chefs will offer delicious street food.

JULY THURSDAY EVENINGS IN THE SQUARE

Thursdays in July are traditionally reserved for evening socialising over street food and great music in the old town centre of Radovljica. Four concerts will take place throughout the month of July, featuring Slovenian and foreign musicians. The first Thursday July evening concert will feature Pedro Makay, whose hot rhythms will transport us to the Caribbean, Africa and Spain. A week later, a concert will take place by the Slovenian vocalist Ana Soklic from Bohinj, followed on the third Thursday in July by the indie-pop group Tretji kanu from Novo mesto, with guest Bort Ross, and on the last Thursday in the month we will be entertained by a wind orchestra from Belgium and the Slovenian band Enjoy your privacy. Street food cooked by Taste Radol’ca chefs will be available at all the Thursday evening concerts, while a Handicraft Market will take place in the afternoon prior to each concert. As a bonus, the Thursday Evenings in the Square concerts will be followed on Monday 5th August by a concert by Neisha.

OPEN-AIR CINEMA

As in previous years, the summer event calendar in the Radol’ca area also features an open-air cinema, which will take place in various locations. The first films on the agenda will be screened on Friday 28th and 29th June in Radovljica Park. This will be followed by open-air cinema screenings in front of the Lipnica Primary School, the Šobec Camp, the garden of Katzenstein Manor in Begunje, the Lesce Sports Airfield, and the final screening will once again return to Radovljica Park.

CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERTS

This year’s summer promises a wealth of concerts that will appeal to classical music fans. Visitors can enjoy various recitals and performances by acclaimed musicians. August will be particularly musical, when the 42nd Radovljica Festival takes place in Radovljica Manor and St. Peter’s Church, featuring 11 concerts.

TRADITIONAL EVENTS

Summer is time for numerous traditional events in the countryside and in towns and villages. Every year, Midsummer celebrations take place on 23rd June in Begunje na Gorenjskem at Kamen Castle, followed by Urh’s Fair. The firsts Saturday in July will be especially lively, as the Iron Forging Festival ethnological event will take place in Kropa, focusing on the village’s century-old tradition of iron forging. The traditional Medieval Market will take place this year on 4th August. The Avsenik Festival will take place from 23rd to 25th August in Begunje na Gorenjskem, while in September the local artist Matevž Langus is remembered at the traditional Langus Days event, which takes place in Kamna Gorica.
