Chocolate Mosaics on View at the Chocolate Festival

15.04.2024 08:20

As in previous years, this year we have ensured an innovative approach to the varied Chocolate Festival programme. Together with local artists, we have created 13 chocolate mosaics, which will be on view in Radovljica Manor.

The chocolate mosaics are unique works of art on a chocolate surface, made entirely of edible materials, as the intention is that after the exhibition the chocolate will not be thrown away but rather will be eaten as a sweet treat.

The idea to make chocolate mosaics came from the ranks of Tourism Radol’ca, and we invited the mosaicist Urška Ambrožič Potočnik to cooperate. We upgraded the initial idea into a charitable project of connecting artists and, through them, also places in the municipality. By introducing a charitable note, the project also reaches beyond the borders of the municipality. We invited 12 artists and handicraft people from the municipality of Radovljica to participate. Working together with mentor Urška Ambrožič Potočnik were the following artists: Nikolaj Mašukov, Meta Šolar, Matjaž Arnol, Tanja Eržen, Marko Milenkovič and the following handicraft people: Simona Bohinc, Bojana Pavlovič Jelenc, Nada Piškur Skalar, Nataša Grohar, Tristan Ažman, Rok Justin and Breda Rozman.

The 13 mosaics were created with the technical and material assistance of Radolška čokolada chocolatier, and the decorations were provided by Gorenjka from Lesce. The mosaics will be on display during the Radovljica Chocolate Festival in the Baroque Hall of Radovljca Manor. There is a special story behind each mosaic and the common thread, in addition to chocolate, is the theme: a bee. This time it was chosen because beekeeping is one of the recognisable themes in Radovljica, and also because a bee mosaic in Manchester was the springboard for the director of the Radovljica Tourist Board, Kaja Beton, and the mosaicist Urška Ambrožič Potočnik to start to thinking about creating a mosaic. The project not only enriches the festival programme but also successfully connects two interesting topics: food and art, both of which have been present in the Radol’ca area for a long time. Numerous projects in the culinary field have already been successfully implemented, thus we hope that the chocolate mosaic workshop is the first germ or extension of new and/or more cultural tourist products.

Under the slogan Let life be sweet for everyone, the mosaics will be donated to charity after the festival. The aim is to delight children and adults who may not be able to attend the festival. Together with the creators, we will hand over the mosaics to residential communities and departments of the Matevž Langus Centre in Radovljica, the Pediatric Department of Jesenice Hospital, the Radovljica Home for the Elderly, and the Kresnička Youth Crisis Centre.
