The Biggest Gluten-Free Event in Slovenia

03.09.2024 13:22

At the end of September the biggest gluten-free event in the region will take place in Radovljica. The event also attracts international visitors.

Following last year’s successful Festival of Gluten-Free Flavours and Fun, the organiser(s), Adele Gray s.p. and the Slovenian Coeliac Association, have included expert content into the two-day programme and have invited international attendees.

Under the name Gluten-Free Expo Slovenia, on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th September a wide range of expert workshops and talks will take place in Radovlijca and on Sunday – the main day of the Expo – visitors will be able to choose from the wide selection of gluten-free food on offer at stalls and socialise in Radovljica Park.

At the opening event on Saturday 28th September, from 5pm to 7pm, visitors will be able to taste gluten-free food from other countries, presented by members of coeliac associations and other visitors, including Malta, Poland, Algeria, Hungary and Croatia.

More detailed information about the programme can be found on the Expo website.

The event has received funding from the American-based Celiac Disease Foundation as well as support from the Association of European Coeliac Societies (AOECS), which connects 39 European coeliac societies. Both the aforementioned emphasise the global importance of the Expo. Therefore, we can really expect a vast choice of gluten-free food in Radovljica. The organisers’ aim is to position Gluten-Free Expo Slovenia as the leading event of its kind in Europe, which will also contribute to new guests coming to Slovenia, and specifically to Radovljica. An increasing number of people exclude gluten from their diets, whether due to coeliac disease, gluten intolerance or other reasons, hence it is important that the needs of these guests and their family members are met. Awareness plays a crucial role to this end, hence at the Expo there will be workshops and talks for restaurateurs, coeliacs, doctors, medical personnel and others.

In addition to its important role in the inclusion and development of events and culinary offers for people who are not allowed to eat gluten, Gluten-Free Expo Slovenia also has a sustainable note. The location of the event makes it easy to visit by public transport, which the organisers particularly encourage. Drinks at the Expo will be served in reusable glasses, there will be a special emphasis on organic and local products and the organisers have also made contact with various tourism, catering and health colleges and other facilities, to include young people in the event. Gluten-Free Expo Slovenia contributes to improving post-season visits to the destination of Radol’ca whilst also being the opening event of the varied autumn culinary scene.
